“Is It Worth It to Follow Jesus”
Matthew 10:17-23

Matthew 10:17-23

1. Bad News of persecution
• Rejection
• Betrayal
• Division
• Persecution
• Imprisonment
• Beatings
• Hatred
• Death

Matthew 10:40-42 – promises

1. v. 40 – “He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me
receives the one who sent me.”

• The way to the Father is through Jesus.
• The world view is all roads eventually lead to God.
• The world says our view is too narrow, intolerant.
• Jesus’ message is the only message that lead from earth to heaven.

2. v. 41 –“Anyone who welcomes a prophet because he is a prophet will
receive a prophet’s reward. And anyone who receives a righteous
person because he is righteous will received a righteous person’s
reward.”

• The reward of salvation belongs to the prophets, preachers,
missionaries, evangelists and church leaders and all who serve them in the background.

3. v. 42 – “Whoever gives just a cup of cold water to one of these little
ones because he is a disciple, I assure you he will never lose his reward.”

• Jesus remembers your concern for people the world can’t see at all.

4. Is it worth it to serve Jesus?
