God’s Message: Jesus Saves!
John 1:1-3
Read John 1:1-3… The Word [Logos] refers to the ultimate expression,
representation and revelation of God in word, form, essence, nature, being,
authority.
The Word was with God – this means “face to face,” the Father and Son have
been together in fellowship, since the beginning, eternity past.
The Word was God – Jesus is God… (Colossians 2:9), “in Christ all the fullness of
the Deity lives in bodily form.”
Jesus and God are called by the same titles:
Holy One (Isaiah 10:20; Acts 3:14-15)
I AM (Exodus 3:14; John 8:24)
Judge (Genesis 18:25; 2Timothy 4:1)
Light (Psalm 27:1; John 8:12)
Lord of lords (Deuteronomy 10:17; Revelation 17:14)
Redeemer (Isaiah 41:14; 48:17; Ephesians 1:7)
Savior (Isaiah 43:11; Acts 4:12)
Jesus and God have the same attributes:
Eternal (Isaiah 9:6)
Immutable (Hebrews 13:8)
Omnipotent (Jeremiah 32:17)
Omnipresent (Proverbs 15:3)
Omniscient (1John 3:20)
Jesus does things only God can do:
Creates all things (John 1:3)
Sustains all things (Hebrews 1:3)
Forgives sin (Mark 2:6-12)
Raises the dead (John 5:21)
Receives worship (John 9:38)
Receives prayer (John 14:13-14)
John 1:14, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have
seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of
grace and truth.” 18, “No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is
at the Father’s side, has made Him known.”
The Word of God put on flesh and was given the name Jesus; He lived among us
to show us the Father, that we might believe and be saved through Him.
John 1:29, 34, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look,
the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” “I have seen and I testify
that this is the Son of God.”
John 3:14-15, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man
must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life.”
John 6:46-47, “No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only
He has seen the Father. I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.”
Those who believe in God [those who obey God] will be rewarded with eternal
life. True Belief is pleasing to God and is synonymous with true Faith (Hebrews
11:6), “without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to
Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek
Him.”
John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Did He mean He would help us to enrich or improve our life? I don’t think so
John 20:31, “these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.”
The Greeks use three different words to describe life: Zoe, Bios, Psuche.
The Greek word translated “life” in both the above verses is Zoe, referring to the
uncreated, eternal life of God, the divine life uniquely possessed by God, granted
only to those who believe in Him, e.g., (John 1:4), “In Him was life, and that life
was the light of men.”
All living humans have “life,” but this is normally expressed in Scripture through
the other two words that are translated life:
Physical life of the material body is expressed as bios, from which comes the
word biology, e.g., in the parable of the sower (Luke 8:14), those who fall away
from true salvation do so because of “life’s worries, riches and pleasures,” those
things that feed the flesh.
Psychological life of the immaterial body is expressed as psuche [our soul, our
emotion and will] from which we get the word psychology, e.g., speaking of true
discipleship Jesus said (Matthew 16:25), “Whoever wants to save his life will lose
it, but whoever loses his life for Me will find it,” that which we set our heart on.
Natural birth, includes both, physical life (bios) and immaterial life (psuche).
But when we trust and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we are not only
forgiven our sins, we are granted eternal life (zoe), supernaturally born by divine
life from God.
John 1:13, “children born not of natural descent, F3 nor of human decision or a
husband’s will, but born of God” [from above, by the Spirit].
John 3:6-8, “Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You
should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows
wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or
where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
See John 6:28-29… God wants His divine life to be in us, in order that we
might live by and live out our lives for Him, so that it will be evident to those
around us (cf. 2Corinthians 5:17; Romans 3:10-12; 3:23-24; 5:8; 6:23: 8:1;
10:9-10, 13).
In the beginning (cf. Genesis 1:1) God created the heavens and the earth and ll
that is within them. After six days of creating the light, the heavens, the seas, the
plants, the fish, the birds, and all the animals, by simply speaking them into
existence:
Genesis 1:26, “God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our
likeness.’”
Genesis 2:7, “The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and
breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, the man became a living being.”
God formed man, with His own hands, and then life was breathed into him by
the very mouth of God, face to face (cf. John 1:1).
Although the details of our individual lives may be very different, and we all, no
doubt, have different abilities, talents, strengths and weaknesses, essentially, God
wants the same for all of us.
God’s plan was to live in us and through us as we (Philippians 2:15-16),
“shine like stars in the universe [holding] out the word of life,” in our daily living,
while working, recreating, shopping, spending time with our families, time with our
brothers and sisters in Christ, and serving in and through our local church.
Our greatest duty to God is to believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, who is (John
14:6), “the way and the truth and the life.” For no one will be saved, no one will be
made acceptable to God, no one will go to heaven, except by believing in [by
obeying] Him.
Our greatest duty to humanity is to tell them about this One who came to
forgive all our sins and provide eternal life, so that the divine nature of God might
live in us, now and forever, through Jesus Christ, our Lord: crucified, resurrected
and coming again.
We have heard the joyful sound: Jesus saves, Jesus saves!
Spread the gladness all around: Jesus saves, Jesus saves!
Bear the news to every land, climb the steeps and cross the waves;
onward! ’tis our Lord’s command: Jesus saves, Jesus saves!
